Projects: Development of a Community Responsive Digital Health Tool for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Kunxuan He is a second-year Health Informatics student at Yale University School of Public Health. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor degree in Economics. Her background in economics has provided her with a strong foundation in data analysis, resource allocation, and cost-benefit evaluation, essential for understanding the economic impact of health technologies. Kunxuan is passionate about the development and application of digital health tools, particularly in enhancing patient self-management, optimizing healthcare workflows, and improving the integration of health data. At Yale School of Public Health, Kunxuan has participated in several digital health initiatives. She co-developed a virtual reality (VR) tool with her team to assist patients with Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) in managing their condition. The prototype is an app design that can be showcased to demonstrate its potential use. This project involved optimizing the user interface for accessibility, particularly for elderly patients, and incorporating multilingual support. Currently, Kunxuan is a team member of the SEEN Lab in the Yale School of Medicine working on a Digital Health Tool for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening, aiming to decrease preventable blindness from diabetic retinopathy through research and community engagement.

One night after finishing an 11 p.m. shift at the university gym, I found a kitten hiding in the bushes. That chance encounter made me a proud cat owner!
